The Bishop: The Diagonal Striker
The Bishop is a highly dynamic piece that moves diagonally across any number of squares. Each player has two Bishops: one traveling exclusively on light squares, and the other exclusively on dark squares.
Fianchetto & Long Diagonals: Because of their diagonal motion, Bishops excel when placed on long, unobstructed diagonals, cutting through the board like lasers. Coaches often teach fianchettoing (placing the bishop on the longest diagonals) to pressure the entire board from safety.
